He said the 46 foreigners came from the Philippines, Ghana, South Africa, New Zealand and Zambia.

“They came here for work and worked at Tata Steel as employees of the International Mill Track Company. Their samples were tested in the Tata Main Hospital (TMH), and the report of the 11 foreigners received a positive Covid-19 today. Subsequently, samples of 29 hotel employees were tested, and one of the employees also tested positive “, said Dr. Pal.

According to the directive of the Union Ministry of Health, samples of these positive Covid-19 patients will now have to be sent to the National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune for advanced and specialized tests for the new coronavirus strain. However, it was not yet clear whether they came directly to India from their countries or through the United Kingdom.

The new Covid-19 strain is said to spread 70% faster. The identification of almost 17 potential changes was found during the preliminary analysis of the mutant variant of the virus.
