West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday challenged the BJP to change the national anthem. He was referring to a letter written by BJP MP Subramaniam Swamy to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said at a rally that refugee colonies in West Bengal have been identified, there is no need to panic NRC, NPR or CAA. Criticizing the BJP, he said that the saffron party had created a new religion of riots and hatred in the society. The BJP will never find a permanent solution to the Gorkhaland issue, only the Trinamool Congress can.
Referring to a recent letter written by BJP MP Subramaniam Swamy to the Prime Minister to change the national anthem, he said that if such “adventurous work” was done, the people of the state would respond appropriately. “They want to change the history of our country and now they want to change the national anthem,” he said.
He on Tuesday accused the central government of interfering in the state’s affairs by asking IPS officers to serve in them. Banerjee also challenged the Center to impose presidential rule in the state for trying to transform West Bengal into a “riot-ridden” Gujarat.
He said that BJP national president J.P. Nadda’s convoy was not attacked and he wondered why the “guilty culprits” were with him. Banerjee said, “If the BJP and the central government think that they will intimidate us by bringing in central army and transferring state cadre officers, then they are thinking wrong.” The Center is calling our officers नव्हती no one (Nadda) or their convoy was to be harmed. ”
He said, “Why were there so many cars in his convoy?” Why was the guilty guilty with him? The goons who smashed the statue of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar last year were also with Nadda. People were outraged to see such goons roaming freely. I challenged the Center to impose presidential rule in Bengal. ”
