Greater Chennai Corporation Joint Commissioner (Health) Joint Commissioner Dr. Alby John Varghese, City Health Officer Dr. M Jagadeesan and experts from the National Institute of Epidemiology, Dr. Prabhdeep Kaur and Dr. P Ganesh, organized on Tuesday a seminar to answer frequently asked questions about vaccination against Covid-19.
Here are their answers to some of the questions
What is the best vaccine – Covaxin or Covishield?
Both have been researched and both are effective. Citizens should receive either, as it will prevent severe illness and death Covid

Not. Should both doses be the same vaccine?
Can patients bypass the heart to get the vaccine?

Can people get Covid-19 after getting the vaccine?
We have limited data in India. But, according to the American agency Center for Disease Control, 99.99% were not infected after the vaccine.
What if there is no stock of vaccines Urban Primary Health Center (UPHC)?
Vaccines are available in 400 centers in Chennai. If the stock is not available on a certain day, it will be available in the following days.

Can patients with a history of allergies get the vaccine?
Consult your doctor. There are different types of allergies; if you had an allergy earlier, go to the hospital for vaccination. If there is a reaction, they can handle it.
What are the symptoms after vaccination?
Fever, chills, body aches and fatigue. If they come, please take simple paracetamol. It will be ok in 2-3 days. There will be no major side effects. There will be redness and pain at the injection site.

What happens if a family member receives Covid-19 after taking the first dose? What precautions should be taken for the second dose?
Take the second dose as scheduled.
Can people with a previous medical history get vaccines?
When you go for a vaccination, ask your doctor.
Can patients treated with thyroid drugs get vaccines?
Yes. There will be no problems
Is a test required before vaccination?
No test is required. Not only in India. No such test is required worldwide. If you have symptoms of Covid-19, get tested before getting vaccinated

Not. You can take it anywhere.
Can the Covid-19 vaccine give me an infection?
Of course not. None of the vaccines in India contain live viruses and therefore cannot cause Covid infection. However, once you get the vaccine, you do not receive false courage. Keep precautions, such as wearing masks and spacing. Complete immunity will be established in just 14 days after the second dose.

My father is afraid to take the second dose. Can it be stopped with a single dose?
The full effect of the vaccine can only be obtained after taking both doses and two weeks later. A single dose will not be enough.
Will natural antibodies be destroyed after vaccination?
Not. The vaccine will only add new antibodies. Natural antibodies will continue to exist in the system. It will not harm the immune system.
I have already recovered from Covid-19. I have antibodies. Can I avoid the vaccine?
Not. The antibodies will not stay long. You need to get vaccinated.
What happens if the second dose is delayed for some reason?

My father has high blood pressure, diabetes and heart problems. Can he get the vaccine?
Yes. These comorbidities present a higher risk. So he has to take.
The first dose was taken abroad (Covishield equivalent). Can I take a second dose in India?
