New Delhi The four-match Test series between India and Australia starts on December 17. The match will be day-night and for the first time any Test match between the two countries will be played day and night. Both teams are ready for the match, but before that former Australia captain Ricky Potting has chosen his favorite playing XI which could prove to be the best team for the first Test against India.
Ricky Ponting was a very successful captain and was known for his tough decisions. He has Joe Burns as the opener in the team he selected for the first Test. However, Joe’s performance was not good for Australia A. David Warner has suggested Matthew Wade as the second opener not to play in the first Test.
Ponting has named Marnus Lubene and Steve Smith as middle-order batsmen. Ponting said of Joe Burns, “I have a lot of messages and suggestions that Joe couldn’t score too much and shouldn’t get a place on the team.” He had scored 40 runs in the last Test. He has scored four Test centuries and his average is around 40, but I believe in him.
On the other hand, he said of Matthew Wade that if he came as an opener, the team would get left-right pairs. When Team India came on the last tour, there were two left-handers in the top order and this led to the dominance of Indian bowlers. I think it’s a little weird, but I’d love to go with it.
Ponting’s favorite XI for the first Test against India
Matthew Wade, Joe Burns, Marnus Labushane, Steve Smith, Travis Head, Cameron Green, Tim Payne, Pat Cummins, Michelle Stark, Jose Hazlewood, Nathan Lyon.
