Bhubaneswar: LV Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) is the proud recipient of the prestigious “Greenberg Award – End Blindness 2020”. The winners were chosen based on the strength of their contributions to eliminating blindness. Dr. Gullapalli N Rao, Founding President, LV Prasad Eye Institute received this award in the “Outstanding Achievement Award” category. LVPEI shares the prize and the $ 3 million prize with another organization in India.
“I am humbled and honored to accept this prestigious award on behalf of over 3,000 members of the LV Prasad Eye Institute and its many supporters globally. Eliminating preventable blindness by 2020 has been an aspiration of the global eye care community for over two decades. I want to acknowledge our gratitude to the Sanford and Susan Greenberg End Blindness Foundation for recognizing our contribution, ”said an enthusiastic Dr. Gullapalli N Rao, Founding President, LV Prasad Eye Institute.

“End Blindness” was a movement to eradicate blindness created by Dr. Sanford Greenberg, who lost his eyes at the age of 19 and his wife Susan. It was announced in 2012 to recognize the work of the scientific and medical communities that were pioneers in the fight to end blindness, between then and 2020.
