All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM), after its good performance in the polls of the Bihar assembly, has announced that it will participate in the polls in Bengal next year.
Recently concluded Bihar elections, AIMIM won five places in the Muslim-dominated Seemanchal region on the border of West Bengal.
“To split the Muslim votes, the BJP is spending crore rupees to bring a party from Hyderabad. The plan is for the BJP to eat in Hindu votes and this party in Hyderabad to eat in Muslim votes.
“In the recent elections in Bihar, they did the same thing. This party is a BJP B team,” Banerjee said at a rally here.
Political parties in West Bengal are concerned that the political equations in the polarized EU state will witness significant changes, as the influence of non-BJP parties on minorities, a key factor in many places, appears to be set for a tough challenge. AIMIM announcing that it will enter the electoral struggle in Bengal.
A decisive factor in almost 100-110 places in the state, 30% of the Muslim population, by 2019, acted as a bastion of TMC against its rivals, the majority voting in favor of the party, considering it a “credible” force that can withstand the saffron wave.
A section of the TMC leadership is concerned that with the entry of AIMIM, the equations are likely to change.
Elections for the 294-member assembly in West Bengal are scheduled for April-May next year.
