Paul Merson disagrees with two experts in Manchester United vs Arsenal predictions

Michael Carrick is set to take over when Manchester United take over from Arsenal.

Under increasing pressure before the November international break, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was eventually fired after a 4-1 defeat to Watford – and Carrick oversaw Villarreal and Chelsea.

Ralf Rangnick has already been named interim manager of the Premier League giants.

However, the German coach has not yet been granted a visa, which means that Carrick will continue in the canoe for Thursday night’s meeting with the Gunners.

Here’s how three experts see United in that Old Trafford showdown (20:15):

Paul Merson – Sky Sports

Addressing the broadcast giants, he said: “This is another huge football match. Arsenal came back to beat the teams they should have beaten and got a good result against Newcastle. They fought Brighton and Liverpool in the Premier League and they didn’t. very well away from home.

“Manchester United have ridden luck several times against Chelsea, but they have achieved an excellent result in the end.

“Carrick made an important statement when he left [Cristiano] Ronaldo came out and I think it worked.

“Took [Marcus] Rashford and [Jadon] Sancho gave up on Ronaldo after a 1-0 win – and Chelsea dominated the rest of the game. United did not become a good team overnight. Carrick will take a chance against Arsenal and I would be shocked if Bruno Fernandes and Cristiano Ronaldo do not start.

“However, they are not very good defensively and cannot afford to be too open against Arsenal. I think both teams would be quite happy with a draw this week.”

Score prediction: United 1-1 Arsenal

Mark Lawrenson – BBC Sport

The longtime BBC Sport expert said: “I liked what United boss Michael Carrick, the United boss, did on Sunday against Chelsea – with Nemanja Matic, Fred and Scott McTominay controlling their defense and the whole team working hard a lot.

“United are still not looking back, but the Stamford Bridge point was a step in the right direction, and if Aaron Wan-Bissaka hadn’t had a bloodbath, he could have taken them all. three. They will definitely rely on that improvement and I’m sure we’ll see more of the same against Arsenal.

“The Gunners came back to win against Newcastle and created a lot of chances in that game, but United, who play at home against their new coach, will have something to prove.”

Michael Owen agrees with Mark Lawrenson on the clash with Arsenal.

Score prediction: United 2-1 Arsenal

Michael Owen – BetVictor

During the latest BetVictor bookmaker section, he said: “Manchester United vs Arsenal is a match that always catches the headlines and, with the introduction of Ralf Rangnick, it will certainly not be any different.

“It is still difficult to understand what United is in terms of style of play, but I think the German will have them much more organized, especially in the established matches. I’m slightly behind Manchester United when you look at the sides pound for pound.

“With that in mind, I’m going to a home win for the Red Devils.”

Score prediction: United 2-1 Arsenal
