Shock, pain after Sitaram Yechury’s son died of Covid

The son of left-wing leader Sitaram Yechury, Ashish Yechury, died this morning of COVID-19 in Delhi. Condolences flowed to the CPI (M) leader and his family after announcing the death of his eldest son, who would have turned 35 in June. Journalist Ashish Yechury died at Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon after a two-week battle with the infection.

“I must inform you with great sadness that I lost my eldest son, Ashish Yechury, to COVID-19 this morning. I want to thank all those who gave us hope and treated him – doctors, nurses, front-line medical workers, sanitation workers and countless others who stood by us, “Sitaram Yechury wrote in the tweet which drew a flood of messages of pain.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Ashish Yechury’s death “tragic and untimely.”

“I say goodbye to my son, Ashish (Biku) from noon today. Thank you to everyone who shared our pain. Thank you to everyone who gave us the strength to cope with this dark hour. I know I’m not alone in my grief, with this pandemic consuming countless lives, “Mr Yechury said in a hectic afternoon tweet.

Politicians attending parties, journalists and other Twitter users sent condolences to Mr. Yechury and his family. Thousands of people expressed their shock and sent messages of solidarity with the family.

Condoling the death of Ashish Yechury, his father’s party colleague and Kerala’s chief minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, wrote on Twitter: “Dear com. @SitaramYechury, deepest condolences for the loss of Ashish. Our thoughts are with you and your family at this difficult time. “

Congressman Shashi Tharoor, who tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday, said he was devastated by the news of Ashish Yechury’s death. Trinamool Congress leader Derek O’Brien and Omar Abdullah of the National Conference sent messages of condolence to veteran leader CPI (M).

“This is a terrible loss. Sita. We are living the darkest moment of our lives. May you have the strength to bear this loss. Condolences from the bottom of my heart,” said lawyer-activist Prashant Bhushan.

Ashish Yechury was recovering well in hospital, the PTI news agency reported, citing people close to the family. He works as an editorial assistant at the Newslaundry news and media platform. He joined the company in January. “We remember him as a warm, gentle and talented friend and colleague. Words fail us, but we would like to convey our deepest condolences to our loved ones in this hour of pain,” Newslaundry said in a tweet. He worked with several other media organizations earlier.

Tamil Nadu politician and DMK chief Stalin said: “I am deeply saddened and saddened to hear of the loss of Ashish Yechury. I offer my deepest condolences to Comrade @SitaramYechury, his family and friends at this difficult time.”

“I am pleased to hear of the death of @SitaramYechury Ji’s eldest son, Ashish Yechury, over Covid – Pray to the Almighty to empower the entire family to bear this loss,” said Congress spokesman Jaiveer Shergill.

India has recorded over three lakh new cases of COVID-19 and 2,104 deaths in the last 24 hours, at another bleak, unprecedented daily level. The virus has killed 1,844,657 people in the country and infected more than 1.59 million since the beginning of the pandemic.
