States prepare for COVID-19 vaccination, receive 41,000 freezers, 45,000 ice refrigerators

New Delhi: The Ministry of Health said on Tuesday that guidelines for estimating cold chain equipment had been issued to all states and received at least 240 coolers, 70 freezers, 45,000 ice-cold refrigerators, 41,000 freezers and 300 solar refrigerators for COVID vaccination. -19.

Speaking about preparations for the COVID-19 vaccine, Health Union Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said the guidelines for estimating and consolidating cold and electrical equipment in the cold chain have been issued to all states and territories of the union.

He said all states have already received 29,000 cold chain items and cold chain equipment that includes “240 coolers, 70 freezers, 45,000 ice refrigerators, 41,000 freezers and 300 solar refrigerators.”

Guidelines for cold chain management were also issued at the last points and session sites.

The center has set up a multilevel governance mechanism to support the COVID-19 vaccination program.

Bhushan said at least 36 states and UTs had held meetings of the state steering committee as well as state working groups. About 633 districts held meetings of the district working group.

He said that approximately 23 ministries / departments of state and central governments have been identified and assigned roles (planning, implementation, social mobilization, awareness raising) for vaccine launch.

Bhushan said the Ministry of Health has also completed training modules for medical officers, vaccination officers, alternative vaccination officers, cold chain handlers, supervisors, data managers, ASHA coordinators and added that physical training as well as online, started in all states and territories of the union.

He said detailed instructions had been issued on infection prevention and control practices during vaccination.

The Secretary of Health said instructions had been issued to states to manage minor, severe or serious adverse events after immunization (AEFI).

“States must identify at least one AEFI management center in each block – primary health centers, community health centers, district hospitals, private health institutions or any other fixed health unit with medical officers and paramedical staff as centers AEFI management center, ”he said, adding that each site session will be connected to a designated AEFI management center.

AEFI reporting will be done through Co-WIN, a digital platform for real-time monitoring of the COVID-19 vaccine. It will allow people to register for vaccination.
