New Zealand captain Kane Williamson took first place in the men’s ICC batting test on Thursday. He overtook Indian captain Virat Kohli and Australian handkerchief Steve Smith to reach this feat.
Williamson became test no. 1 following his spectacular 129 run against Pakistan in the first half of the first test at the Bay Oval. He earned 13 rating points for his 129 and 21 effort to go 11 points behind Kohli and 13 ahead of Smith.

After this achievement, the Kiwi commander said that he is just trying to do everything possible for his part, which is reflected in the ranking.
“It’s about trying to do as much as possible for the team. If you can contribute as much as you can and it can be reflected in the rankings, it is very interesting “, said Williamson in a video posted on the official ICC Twitter.
Willamson briefly took first place in late 2015, but either Smith or Kohli have been number one since then. And this year, Smith was in the lead for 313 days and Kohli for 51, before Williamson climbed ahead.
“Those two players (Virat Kohli and Steve Smith) are the best. For me, sneaking in front of someone (like them) is very surprising and humiliating. These are the two players from one year to the next, in all formats, who are advancing the game, very lucky to play against these guys “, said Willaimson.

“It was a great game to be involved. It seems that we have many tight finals against Pakistan. The last three went to the last 25 minutes of the last day. Both teams fought incredibly hard. I think we had moments, although the resistance sustained by Pakistan on the last day was incredibly strong. It’s really interesting to cross the line and hunt for an opportunity for the World Testing Championship, “he added.
