- Xiaomi Mi A3 owners report bricked phones after Android 11 update.
- It is not clear what could be causing this problem.
Xiaomi Mi A3 is the latest Android One smartphone from the Chinese manufacturer and was a pretty solid device, if not spectacular, at launch. The phone was launched with Android Pie and now receives Android 11, but it looks like you should really wait before pressing the “update” button.
XDA-Developers mottled more complaints from Mi A3 owners on Twitter, noting that their phones are locked after being updated to Android 11. Specifically, the phone refuses to turn on or charge after being asked to restart it.
Several users on reddit also intervened to confirm that their phones were locked after upgrading to Android 11. A user notices that they cannot access the bootloader or connect to the phone via a PC.
There is still no word on a specific reason for the Mi A3 brickwork, but we would certainly warn against upgrading to Android 11 if you are asked to do so.
It’s not the first time an Android update has seriously affected the Mi A3, as the fingerprint scanner no longer works after the initial Android 10 update. I’m sure Mi A3 users with brick units would prefer a faulty fingerprint scanner right now.
